Joint Replacement

Surgical therapies

If you are facing severe arthritis or a hip injury, severe knee or ankle injury, joint replacement surgery is often the most successful method of treatment. Our orthopedic surgeons will assess your condition to determine what is the least invasive treatment that will result in a successful recovery. In some cases, less invasive treatments may not be sufficient to provide adequate recovery and may recommend a joint replacement procedure for your needs. Joint replacement procedures will stop your pain and give you back the mobility that you once had when your joint was healthy.

Our orthopedic surgeons perform the joint replacement surgery by using two parts. The end of one bone is replaced with a prosthesis which has a metal ball on the end to replace the joint. The second part of the prosthesis is the metal cup liner that replaces the worn out and damaged socket. This gives a new joint that allows for free movement without pain.

In the case of shoulder replacement procedures, Atlantis Orthopaedics and Dr. Howard Routman have pioneered a reverse shoulder replacement technique that reverses the role of the ball and socket in the shoulder. A reverse total shoulder replacement provides better results for people with large rotator cuffs in the presence of cuff tears.

In the event you need surgery, it will be carried out by our own surgeons and staff while you are completely under anesthesia. We will work to minimize your incision and will decide on the best method of prosthesis placement. Depending on body, we will either use screws or prosthetic cement to adhere your prosthesis to your bones. Both methods produce great results, and we will explain which method is being done and why.

This is truly one of the best methods to stop your severe pain and get you back into life. Our physicians will discuss your aftercare and you will be given physical therapy to get you mobile as quickly as possible. Our team will continue to monitor you throughout your healing process to be sure that you are healing properly and not experiencing pain.
